honestly stunned that this was a student film... the visual direction was nothing short of incredible. the mixed media nature of it coupled with using real-life footage of political figures between animation (yukio mishima jumpscare) was a really cool technique that made it feel all the more harrowing. a very compellingly executed artistic frustration over the forceful submission to arbitrary expectations and standards held by japanese institutions, and by extension, society at hand toward the already disenfranchised youth
maybe i take it a little bit more personally because of all the annoying dress code regulations i had to follow in high school (especially with hair policies, dear god) but i found myself really resonating with the messaging here, especially in today's political climate
embarrassingly, i still havent watched midori yet, but now i am even more interested in hiroshi harada's incredible repertoire. good shit man
