A thematic focus on revenge will always leave me at the very least entertained. This has a lot more going for it though, from the gorgeous technicolor and framing on the landscape shots to Ennio Morricone delivering yet another fantastic score, I’m very confident in saying this is one of the better entries in this genre. It’d be wrong for me not to mention Lee Van Cleef too, I know I’ve said this before in other reviews but he’s my pick for the best spaghetti western actor and this is a perfect example as to why. John Phillip Law was good next to him as well, I got heavy Terence Hill vibes from him and he did well in showing the pain and anger of someone who’d experienced what he had. My only real problem here would be the editing, it wasn’t even bad for most of the movie but there were points where it was rough and cuts were overused. The story got me with a few of its twists and turns and like I said the revenge plot was solid, it was definitely on the simpler side but when done right that can make for a great movie and that was the case here. I don’t think these movies will ever get old to me, with every single one I watch my appreciation grows and this has pretty much everything I love about the genre.
“Before anybody kills me they got to get my okay. And I don’t think I’ll give it to ‘em.”
