Decided to start the new year off with this classic. Because it’s about a new person a better person and new year learning to be better and all deep stuff.

Doctor Who: Twice Upon a Time
Most of the episode itself is enjoyable and sweet enough but what I really need to talk about right now are Capaldi's last words.

"You wait a moment, Doctor. Let's get it right. I've got a few things to say to you. Basic stuff first: Never be cruel, never be cowardly, and never ever eat pears! Remember, hate is always foolish, and love is always wise. Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind. Oh! And, you mustn't tell anyone your name. No one would understand it anyway. Except- Except children. Children can hear it. Sometimes, if their hearts are in the right place and the stars are too, children can hear your name. But nobody else. Nobody else. Ever. Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind. Doctor, I let you go."

12 is my doctor. 12 just about encapsulates, to me, everything that Doctor Who is about: Adventure, defiance, loss, love, connection, torment, and revival. His development from a strict, almost cruel man to a sweet professor type is admirable and, frankly, inspiring. He lives and breathes hope, he IS hope and change, and he lost and accomplished so much more in his limited lifespan than many of the doctors before him. That's not to say that the ones surrounding 12 did less, but it is to say that 12 was an inspiration, at least to me, in a way greater than what I'd seen up until that point.

"Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind." The quote from my bio, as of writing this review, and I get that it's simple and almost self explanatory. But kindness is absent from the world, and it's oftentimes absent from the so-called "kind" Doctor as well. But 12 knows how to be kind, he knows what true, honest, and benevolent kindness is. Sometimes he misuses it, and sometimes he ruins because of it, but he never succumbs to hatred in the ways his predecessors did. Whether it's the Doctor's experiences up until this point or the hand that 12 got dealt when he regenerated, he is full of love and change and will go to the ends of the universe to express it in his old, time-ridden way.

Laugh hard, run fast, be kind.
