This movie is severely put to shame compared to the new Superman movie.
Firstly, the opening Krypton scenes were trying to be sad and dramatic, but it honestly was just CGI slop for most of it with very little actual acting or coherent story happening.
Look don’t get me wrong, having a super overpowered and nonchalant superman is cool to watch and creates some fairly entertaining action, but it does cause problems. What is misses it the thing that superhero movies need which is heart and weakness. A hero has to have those human struggles which make them relatable - which make us, the viewer, feel like we can be a hero too. Man of Steel suffers with the problem that Superman is too far beyond human that he looses all relatability.
A lot of this movie had heart to it, but I regret to say the story lacked. The whole thing with Clark’s father dying in the tornado was such a silly scene because he made absolutely no sense, he realistically would’ve risked his identity and just saved him, lets be honest.
Although, I have to admit, I liked the film more than I expected. I generally like when superhero films have a darker tone. But, it objectively isn’t how a Superman film should be. Although, I am going to backtrack ever so slightly. I am so very unsure as to whether I enjoyed this film. I found myself to be bored in parts, but I did like the general feel of the film. It did really drag on though, it was far longer than it realistically needed to be.
At one point towards the end of the film, my internet went out for a while, which was honestly a nice relief.
In a similar vein, there was some sick aura-farming scenes by Superman. Cool? Sure. Is that what Superman is meant to be? No.
Whilst it wasn’t at all a bad movie - it should not have been a Superman movie.
