In addition to getting in trouble with the law, the Whites, who live deep within Appalachia, uphold a time-honored dancing style, even as they contend with poverty, drugs and other issues. Alternately humorous and sad, the movie is an unflinching look at life on the criminal margins of rural mountain culture.

The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia
I found parts absurd and shocking which got a laugh but like the family legend Jesco, all I really felt was a consistent despair and hopelessness. It felt highly exploitative and hyper biased towards getting whatever footage they needed to fit the narrative of this crazy family of rednecks in West Virginia and not doing any meaningful analysis of them as people

in honor of the boone county coal mining fest happening recently i had to check in on one of my favorites for the 5th time not counting my bedtime watches:
god it's so sad but so addicting, these peoples lives are something most people only live through via facebook posts.
