i read about this and went to rue daguerre before watching the docu. apart from varda’s house (which, by the way, doesn’t even have a plate) i wasn’t that impressed. there’s something about the 14th: not flashy, but full of names of which you can still feel the echoes, the ghosts. still, i wasn’t sure what made it special. then, after watching it, i realised: rue daguerre is your street, it’s mine, it’s everyone’s. it’s the relatability of anonymity, the ordinary turned sacred. it’s the reason why paris is cool: if you blend in, the city is yours, but you’re hers too
