I wanted my 500th movie rated on flick to be an all time great and I can say that this is without a shadow of a doubt a great movie. If you want a sad film, here you are. The main thing that this movie has going for it is the characters though, they are either super lovable or the most desolate repulsive human beings out to screen. The evil prison guard legitimately made me say out loud that I hated him and I don’t usually talk during movies. John was also such a great character, they wrote him so well and it was acted to perfection. Even as a 3 hour plus movie, it didn’t feel long or drawn out which was one of the things I was most worried about. The subtle music tied the film together so well. I will admit the whole concept of the film is a bit weird but it was done so well, I know it’s an adaptation from a Stephen king book so I get it. I do see why this is considered an all time great and I did really like it, I’ll definitely rewatch.
