This might be the best performance i’ve ever seen from javier bardem, which is saying a TON. Johnny depp is so good in this they cast him in two different roles and i almost didnt notice. If i ever watch this again it will probably be the spanish dub.

no one warned me of the ending to this and i had no prior knowledge of reinaldo arenas so long story short i cried so hard i could hear my heart beat in my ears, i had to put my crochet down because i couldn’t see it, i now have a throbbing headache, and i think i almost threw up

might bump up to 4.5 stars but i’m still too annoyed by (at least as far as i’m aware) 2 domestic abusers making cameos in this film

Captain Raquel put this in class, I learned a lot about Cuban history and one of my fencing mate whose about 40 explained to me a bit more about the whole situation and that the book is better. Personally it hurts, and it hurts not because it’s so sad to live such a life and in such a place, but the fact that we were and are still capable of having such brute forces governing us. His poems are so hard and painful, he was always just a child. He was granted death too late in life yet not as late as to see a bit of the outside too. How many times was all lost?
