Love watching a movie that feels made just for me. Stunningly gorgeous lead actress, southern cultural setting, overtly religious in its imagery and motifs. King Vidor delivers such a tight and relenting masterpiece in just 82 minutes, and I'd have loved to watch triple that amount.
Might as well just kind of wax poetic about Jennifer Jones here. This is my first movie with her in the cast and it feels like I've wasted so much time taking this long to finally get here. She is electrifying as Ruby and commands a goliath-type presence whenever she's on the screen, which thankfully is almost the entire movie. Her hammed up southern accent plays with grace coming from someone as captivating as her, to the point where you don't even notice it so much as the time passes.
Hang that party dress(you'll know the one when you see it) from the rafters bc this was a performance of a lifetime.
