Nic Cage is a big game hunter, capturing animals for sale to the highest bidder, with his most prized possession is a white jaguar from the Brazilian jungle that will see him settle nicely into retirement with a big fat pay day. The only problem? He has to get the damn thing home, which he chooses to do so via ocean liner, also home to a particularly high security prison transfer of psychotic ex-military loon Loffler (Kevin Durand). Hmm Con Sea anyone? Famke Jansen is also on board as a Naval Doctor because Loffler’s head might blow up if he hits a certain altitude. Or something.
This has some nifty elements, a rouge-ish Cage who is in it for the money but has that heart of gold thing going also and Durand who is usually a supporting goon, given the opportunity to play the big bad all himself this time, and during the prison scene and particularly his seizure moment he is super effective!
It’s just a pity that when he does break free (not really a spoiler, I mean obviously this was gonna happen), he is more of the mouse than cat in the ensuing manhunt. I was keen for him to go full slasher mode picking crew and passengers off one by one.
Oh and the CGI Jaguar is pretty awful.
