Boy if you thought the guy from My Octopus Teacher was in love with the Octopus, wait till you see Timothy Treadwell touch a bear’s poop.

In fact, this movie is kind of a cross between My Octopus Teacher and Tiger King. This movie is crazy. This guy is crazy. I love the way Herzog shoots this, almost as if it’s his first movie. Even in his interviews, rarely does he go for naturalism, everything feels ultra staged, just as Treadwell did it.

A weird character study in a mind you didn’t want to be in. I’ll be thinking about this for a while.

Whether you boil it down to stupidity, incompetence, or a “lack of respect”  is something I still can’t quite pin down. In the presence of one of the most dangerous apex predators, Timothy Treadwell is a fascinating figure. There’s a kind of delusion there, sure, but he also oozes character which isn’t me advocating or even agreeing with what he was doing, if you can even call it a “hobby” that is.
