9.2/10 for America’s 250th birthday had to watch a movie about a true American icon. Fred Rogers is the absolute goat and one of the greatest media personalities ever. Literally raised a whole generation of kids the right way. On his show he talked about a lot of mature topics like death and war. But he helped kids process it. That’s what Mr. Rogers was great at. Helping kids process their emotions. I still think about from time to time the senate testimony he had which was so powerful. That was well before my time and still one of the greatest speeches I’ve ever heard. Mr. Rogers is also from my city so that’s another reason he meant so much to me. Sorry that I’m just now getting to the review but I wanted to show how great of human Fred Rogers was. Tom Hanks is absolutely fantastic as Mr. Rogers and he doesn’t look nor sound like Mr. Rogers but still captivates me each time he’s on screen. I also love how the story real isn’t focused on Mr. Rogers as it is more focused on Llyod and his mental struggles that stem from his stressful work life and childhood. Matthew Rhys also delivers an amazing performance and you can just feel his struggle through the screen. And the ending scene is just so wonderful to me. Fred teaches kids anger management in a healthy way and we get to see a glimpse of Fred angry but being angry in a healthy way. He doesn’t lash out on any of the crew members after a long day. He just gently strikes the piano keys. This shows how Mr. Rogers is human just like us and isn’t just an emotionless saint many perceived him. He deals with the same anger, sadness, and rage we go through on a daily basis. Rest in peace Fred Rogers.
