I really thought that rewatching this would maybe make it better, like maybe I was just being really negative the first time, but no its still really bad. An attempt was made, albeit a very poor one. It’s definitely not all bad, like there’s some positives here like the soundtrack, the many locations, the actings really fucking cheesy but I kinda like it, they got Nao Ōmori back which is fucking awesome, and some scenes in here are pretty good. There’s a lot to like about this but for me there’s just WAYYYYYYYYY more negatives than positives man. Ugh. I can appreciate this movie for sure, but it’s really not that good. If you like it, i’m very happy that you can enjoy something I can’t cause I really really do want to like this cause it’s all about Ichi, but I am just not a fan at all.

very. confusing. not in terms of story, but of this movies existence.

Where Ichi the Killer stands out and is weird but tells a good story, this story feels generic and weak in comparison and honestly just feels like high schoolers fighting: the movie except ichi from ichi the killers here? for some reason?
The biggest issue with the movie by far is the fact it fails to be a prequel. We learn almost nothing new at all about Ichi throughout the entire film and that’s a major missed opportunity. We know now that he was in karate class, saw him get bullied more, and saw how he started his kick style of fighting but besides that, we already knew he got horny from killing, we already knew he was a crybaby, we knew all of this stuff so why didn’t they make this feel more like a prequel or something at least?
Overall this movie is a low budget but somewhat entertaining movie, but as a movie marketed as a prequel to Ichi the Killer, it fails. And Im just a bit disappointed with this one cause i love Ichi the Killer so so so so so much.
