Ye liked me lobster didn’t ye.
So happy to have caught this for the IMAX re-release. This is clearly a film that was meant to be watched in theaters.
The Lighthouse is moody, jarring, and downright weird; but at the same time is a breath of fresh air from one of horror’s most promising directors. While not necessarily scary by most conventions of horror, the lighthouse is a slow burn character study of two men left to their own vices. Robert Pattinson (easily a top 3 actor of our generation imo) and Willem Dafoe are incredible as always delivering their seamen lines with almost poetic meter. The whole thing is just so damn well done.
What I like most about this movie though is that it maintains the feel of amateur film. Two actors, tight sets, no filler, just so damn good. Eggers has been flexing his mastery of this since literally day one, I can’t wait for Nosferatu.
