Interesting movie for sure, but honestly my favorite part was probably the hotel at the beginning of the film. The atmosphere there was immaculate.

Not boring at all, even though it lowkey made me uneasy. The horror is there, the mystery is solid, definitely tense, and the thriller aspect works pretty well. My cousin tried to convince me like, “what if Mrs. Danvers is actually nice?” because of that whole The Others twist trauma LMAO. But nah… I clocked her immediately. She looks like an antagonist from the start, I’m sorry. And Rebecca? I don’t care what anyone says, defending her is wild. Cheating with multiple men, even her own cousin?? Be serious. No wonder Max turned out the way he did. Messy all around.
Also wait, Lily James’ character doesn’t even have a proper name?? That threw me off. but omg I felt SO bad for her. The constant comparisons to Rebecca, the humiliation, the psychological pressure… like girl couldn’t breathe for a second. Danvers was actually insufferable, she should’ve been fired immediately, no questions asked.
I kinda get why Max didn’t tell his new wife the truth though. He was scared she’d leave him, especially because he clearly loved how innocent and soft she was. Still messy, but I get it. I did suspect from early on that Max killed Rebecca, but I didn’t know the full context yet. At first I thought he was just straight up awful, but turns out it’s complicated, even if it still feels morally gray. Favell was also a walking red flag from the start. The way he acted around Max’s new wife?? Disrespectful as hell. Max had every right to be mad.
Overall, I really liked it. The locations were gorgeous, super atmospheric. And Rebecca as a character? I was so curious about her the whole time. Almost felt bad at first… then, not so much. Also kinda crazy that Max got away with everything in the end after literally confessing?? Didn’t expect it to get that dramatic, but honestly… I enjoyed it.
