Definitely have my problems with this, but overall fairly enjoyable. Gotta give props to Tippi Headron. I was pretty enamoured with her performance in this. Can't say the same for Sean Connery. (I mean... what is that accent??) I spent most of the movie wishing he were Cary Grant instead.
The themes of repression and repressed memory seem quaint today, knowing what we know about Freudian analytics and whatnot, but I can maybe imagine that in the early 60s, these ideas might have been somewhat radical, and this depiction may have inspired others to seek out therapy.
I did feel the final reveal (which you can kinda see a mile away) wasn't incredibly satisfying.
This kinda feels like a film that is stuck in the past a bit, like Hitchcock wasn't really adapting with the times of the 60s. It's weird to me that this and Easy Rider are only 5 years apart, or that it's only 4 years away from something like The Monkees' Head. You put this film next to either of them, and this one feels like it must be from the early 50s, in execution and in tone and thematically.
6.8/10
