This was a documentary about the life of Spalding Gray that I knew very little about but decided to watch it because it was directed by Steven Soderbergh, which seemed interesting. I didn’t even know much about Spalding Gray until watching this film actually. The entire film consists of interviews and footage from Spalding Gray’s monologues, which makes it feel as if he himself is telling his own story - which is very meta of course because that’s what Spalding Gray was known for in the world of theater - he performed his monologues on stage and talked about his life experiences. There were very few others who even spoke during the documentary. I enjoyed the documentary (I quite enjoy meta) and thought it was funnier than what I had expected (mostly because his monologues were kind of humorous at times) but had one minor gripe - it was a bit long. Could’ve been a tad shorter. It lost some of my attention near the end and I was just expecting it to finally conclude.
