A romcom? Yeah, I’m in.
Honestly, I mostly showed up for that and for Jack Quaid, and it ended up being a really fun surprise. I had a great time with this one.
On a technical level, it’s solid. Nothing too flashy, but the camera work does its job and the soundtrack fits the tone really well. What I did like a lot is the structure, it flows nicely and matches the story in a way that keeps things engaging.
Jack Quaid is great here. He brings a lot of charm to the role, but the real standout for me is the chemistry between him and Maya Erskine. It’s so natural. And yeah, she’s fantastic, I think this is the first time I’ve seen her in something, and she completely won me over.
The story is simple but it works really well. Two long-time single friends deciding to be each other’s plus-ones for a bunch of weddings? It’s such a good setup for both comedy and romance, and the movie makes the most of it.
Also, I loved Ben’s dad. That scene in the car when he’s completely out of it and starts talking… yeah, that got me.
By the end, I was actually a bit nervous about where it was going, I thought it might go for a more bittersweet route, but thankfully it didn’t fully break me.
Maybe I’m just biased because I really enjoy this kind of movie, but I had a great time with it. Easy, fun, and with just enough heart to make it land.
