The film had potential. For a film set in the 1950s, having an all black cast in hollywood was kind of a big deal. Dorothy Dandridge stands out the most in this. Harry Belafonte is good too but his character was getting on my nerves so bad. I am surprised that they had that much of a budget to make a black Hollywood film tbh. Overall the costumes, sets and the production feels quite polished even though it was not perfect.At the same time it does feel very much of its era. The way race is presented is important but at the same time it’s also limited. It could have gone further than this and the plot is uneven, especially with how the music fits in
