Tomorrow I'll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea is a fucking bizarre Czech film about time-travelling Nazis and twin brothers, I say this because I doubt anyone reading this will have the faintest clue what it is otherwise.
It somehow lands in this perfect sweet spot between being ridiculously silly and also genuinely impressive filmmaking and scriptwriting.
The music is pretty weird, and makes it feels like a fever dream, but it absolutely works with the tone and somehow makes the whole thing feel even more surreal and charming.
It’s on BFI Player, and you should definitely see it if you get the chance.

An Utterly ingenious and delectably hilarious film from Czechoslovakia. I think this is my second Czech film, both of which have been magnificently strange (The Cremator 1969 being the first one). I absolutely loved this one, an absurd time-travel journey based around anti-aging Nazis who plan to travel from the 1990s to 1944, present Hitler with a stolen Hydrogen bomb to ensure the Third Reich’s victory of WWII. As you can imagine, none of this goes to plan mostly due to the unplanned switch up of twin brothers (in a moribund fashion), one of which is meant to fly the time-travelling rocket. It doesn’t really make much sense, but that’s the glorious charm of the film; this absurdity reminded me greatly of the masterpiece Underground 1995, both films brilliantly convey an incredibly weird but very dazzling feeling that is just so indescribable. Another thing I loved about this film is the glorious roughness of the film, all the grain and dust worked beautifully with the fantastic cinematography of the film.

I like seeing Nazi’s get killed and it’s always great to see. This film definitely has a charm to it, it has some of your classic tropes but even then they really work. Definitely something I’d watch again and again.
