Not for me, was pretty slow and uneventful. Just not a whole lot happened except for the last maybe 10 minutes. It does show the suffering of post war living but other than that. The father is a terrible dad, he’s just a dick and honestly kind of reaped what he sowed.

This might just be the greatest performance from a child actor I have ever seen. Maggiorani had an incredible performance as well, while he wasn’t even a professional actor. In fact, he was literally a factory worker when this was filmed. Such an effective and sad movie that really highlights the poverty in Italy following World War 2.
