Honestly, James Mangold might be the greatest studio director we have these days. He takes fun ideas and elevates them significantly, making the subject of his film extremely captivating.
This reminded me a lot of Mangold's Ford v Ferrari. It's a super bro-y movie with some amazing sequences, and great performances. It's escapist without feeling cheap. While I was intrigued by Christian Bale's performance, this might be my favorite performance of Russell Crowe. He toes the line perfectly, making you afraid of him but drawn in by his charm.
Ben Foster is also insanely good. I was happy to see him in such a crucial role. I hope this man gets cast in more things.
I picked up this blu-ray at Goodwill, very fun blind buy!
