You know what this has its issues but I think it comes down to the director having a heart attack before preproduction and its production in America starting in March of 2020.

The themes are great, it has plenty of depth to it, Cage is giving it, it just feels like they didn’t have much footage to work with and like I said the production history sort of explains that.

It’s a respectable experiment that just didn’t quite work but if only we had more directors have the balls to try something like this.

Bill Mosley, Nic Cage, and Ratmans character and his little gang were the only things that saved this movie. I love Ratmans design cause he’s heavily inspired by the cyberpunk era of japanese movies and apocalyptic movies like mad max. Really really reminds me of Burst City and I love him so much <3

I wanted to like this and I mean I don’t hate it and it’s not boring I wasn’t bored at all but it’s just mediocre man fuck idk. Definitely feels like a movie I could only enjoy while wasted and that’s not really an insult cause a lot of movies are more fun intoxicated (mostly comedies) but still :/

I like all the set pieces, i like the insane insane insane amount of extras used in like every scene in the movie, and it looks pretty but like this doesn’t feel like Sion Sono AT ALL. I haven’t seen much from him but this feels nothing like his other movies and I get why people are so disappointed with this.

What follows is visually nice to look at, but takes the thin western concept and drags it out with uninteresting subplots about a nuclear apocalypse and a half baked Battle Royale timed explosive. Usually Caged unhinged can part way save a movie, but here he just seems on a different wave length to everyone else.

Any other Sion Sono titles I should be checking out?

What this was an allegory of was not lost on me, however, it never does anything to appeal to emotions and, while I love Nic Cage, he managed to make a dry movie even more dry. There’s some subtle comedy and it’s cool to see some familiar faces from other Sono films, but this was a tough one to get through. On the upside, it’s nice seeing all the obvious influences in this one, especially classics from the 50s and 60s.
