❝A million years is... when someone you love tells you he wants to be a normal person, then leaves you. From that day on, every day... is a million years.❞

Dear Ex is poignantly written and surprisingly brutal; for a comedy, I sure did cry a lot. It explored themes of heartbreak, societal expectations and lost love in a heart-wrenching way, and in the end I could understand the perspectives of both the spurned wife and downtrodden lover, though I don't condone some of her actions. However, I didn't expect to also see the strained mother-son relationship represented in two different ways: San-lian and Cheng-xi sparred over her nagging and overbearing nature, when in reality she just wanted the best for him, while Jay was misunderstood by his mother regarding his sexuality; it was lovely to see how each relationship was worked through and strengthened by the end. On the whole I really liked the acting, but Roy Chiu and Hsieh Ying-xuan's performances as they were raw and impactfully emotional. The camerawork and visuals were also very pretty; all in all, an excellent film that I highly recommend giving a go.
