Ryusuke Hamaguchi is a director I admire. While I don’t think I fully grasp his style and direction, I really appreciate the human aspect of his work. His characters seem to live off one another in meaningful ways, and his films often feel like reflections on social dynamics and relationships.
This is only the third film I’ve seen from him, and while his movies haven’t always completely worked for me, I deeply appreciate how he pairs these themes with a subtle, atmospheric approach.
Regarding this short film:
The premise was very intriguing, and it felt like I was jumping into the middle of a larger story. I loved how he lets the camera carry so much of the storytelling, even though this is a very dialogue-driven film.
