Despite being an awful person Emil Jannings was truly an extraordinary actor. I had very high expectations for this film and they were met. William Powell is also quite good but he doesn't have nearly as much screen time. Really the only thing that could of made this better is a longer run time. If they didn't have to use model trains due to budget reasons (I'm assuming) Keaton's The General would have a rival train scene. I also loved the camera techniques used, especially in the ending shot.

The longest backstory ever jesus. 

You’d think acting back then would of been pretty mild, especially when it came to silent films, but holy fuck was Emil Jannings’ performance absolutely breath taking, particularly with that ending scene!

I would give this a 5/5 but for a lot of the film, embarrassingly enough, I did play this film in x2.
