Hansel and Gretel

A dark, stylized fever dream, this silent, black and white take on Hansel and Gretel is pure atmosphere, *honestly looking like a lost film from the 1900s–1920s**. Every frame feels eerie and intentional, with that raw, almost cursed vibe Eggers* does so well. No dialogue, just visuals and the music carrying everything, and it works. Still, it feels like an early experiment,but haunting, and honestly some really cool stuff.

is this an absolute masterpiece? definitely not, but this being robert eggers first film is amazing. i expected nothing less from him and love that his style could be scene from the very beginning

I miss the days when we could write Hansel and Gretel off as a far off tale with no truth to it. But really, it’s closer to reality than many of us thought.

you really can't take the folkloric vibe, black and white aesthetic, and eerie atmosphere out of this man

but then again, lowkey surprise lang ako how different the short film from my 10 pesos version of hansel and gretel story book back when i was in elementary, stepmom meron sila and they will be sold to whoever it may be tapos they navigated their way home thru glowing stones (FAVE PART AND VERSION KO ITO HUHU)
