FUCK it's been too long since I've seen a Bette Davis movie. She throws everything at the wall in this and it hits like crack cocaine. Everyone who hates on these early Best Actress wins hate fun!

Not Bette's best role but still deserving of that first Oscar and the film itself is still really solid. Bette really embodies her character and this film is just an example of her amazing acting skills.

Watching this in close succession to I Saw the TV Glow made me appreciate the effort and time it takes to craft an artificial pop culture reality within a fictional world even more. This film is so ahead of its time with its metacommentary on stardom and the dichotomy between culture icon and human being. As much as all the actors deliver top tier performances, this was definitely a consolation Oscar for Bette Davis after being snubbed the previous year for Of Human Bondage (1934).
