First movie of 2025 🎉
And first rental from Scarecrow Video's rent-by-mail service! 🎃* I stopped by Scarecrow while in Seattle last month and was blown away by their collection. If I lived there I'd probably spend hours every week browsing the shelves, but I don't so I'll have to be content with having them ship me unhinged nonsense through the USPS.
I honestly love everything this movie is trying to do. Using the Ozu-esque family drama framework for a pinku movie where a woman pretends to be a cow so her senile stepfather can milk her is a great concept. It allows some otherwise rote and pointless feeling sex scenes to work on more of a character study level as we see how each character's relationship to sex/sexuality gives background to their personality and emotional state. Toss in twenty more minutes of contemplative scenes about grief, denial, and aging and this would be a very reapectable arthouse picture.
Could be far better, but there are a lot of lovely scenes, or at least a lot of lovely ideas for scenes.
