In 1945, as America's soldiers come home to ticker-tape parades and overjoyed families, Private First Class Donny Novitski, singer and songwriter, returns to rebuild his life with only the shirt on his back and a dream in his heart. When NBC announces a national competition to find the nation's next great musical superstars, inspiration strikes! Donny joins forces with a motley group of fellow veterans, forming a band unlike any the nation has ever seen. Along the way, they discover the power of music to face the impossible, find their voice and finally feel like they have a place to call home.

We fight for ourselves now, and all of the wrongs will be made right this way.
Will never not be able to get through Welcome Home (Finale) without sobbing.

Encapsulates the importance of art to its creators perfectly. For most artists it’s not survive to create, but instead create to survive.

Bandstand will forever be my second favorite musical (despite not having a patriotic bone in my body) I have so much actually introspective and analytic commentary I could say but instead I'll be silly with it 1. Donny Novitski's autistic coding is so so special to me specifically 2. Can't believe every single member of the Donny Nova Band is queer (not just Jimmy- also fuck u for cutting the 3 sec coming out scene broadway vers. that's so unnecessary) 3. I love the found family trope so much 4. Wayne and Nick are the faggiest fags I've seen in my entire goddamn life 5. Donny Novitski has been in my top 5 Spotify wrapped for like three years lmao 6. extremely robbed (but that goes without saying)
