I LOVE GAY CRIME!!
Jack is characterised as a bit of a flame, so all that's left to do is introduce him to a moth.
Adrian is quick to fall in love, and the movie doesn't bother hiding it. From the moment Jack's first introduced, you can already see him being compared to the likes of James Dean. It's beyond the admiration that Adrian feels, because Jack
is putting on some form of act. The only time he ever gets to be real and honest is when he's with Adrian.
Honestly, their dynamic is
insanely good. Both of the characters feel perfectly fleshed out, and Adrian in particular has a lot going for him that makes you empathise. He's likely autistic (and I want to see his Letterboxd account), he's probably also got BPD, he's nervous, and he's very repressed. More than anything, he doesn't want to be alone, which he doesn't make easy for himself, because he won't trust anyone, and he won't let anyone in. Anyone except for Jack, which obviously turns out to be a mistake.
By the time he figures that out, of course, it's a bit too late. The both of them already care about each other.
ALSO, if anyone hasn't read the script I recommend
you go read it - there's a few bits cut out that are a lot more explicitly homoerotic, and it's generally an interesting read.
