after watching the tortuous annabelle trilogy (with only one good movie) i wanted to cleanse my palette with ‘m3gan’ which i kind of swept under the rug just for the fact i don’t really find killer dolls scary, or interesting. but i was honestly wrong. this film perfectly balances horror and comedy, and doesn’t really lean too hard on each sides. it’s incredibly funny with m3gan constantly doing something odd, singing titanium as a bed time story? doing a random dance mid through chasing someone?? it uses dark comedy which perfectly blends with the more unnerving, suspenseful scenes of m3gan’s psychotic sides, of her running after brandon in the weirdest position ever.. or stabbing everyone. it serves as nice commentary on the current state of tech : ai controlling the world and kids becoming increasingly dependent on technology. not only is it relevant but it shows the damaging and scary side of smarter tech. the casting and the performances are amazing : allision williams provides us with an overwhelmed god mother as she adopts cady and battles against her own creation. annabelle found dead in a ditch! m3gan is unapologetically hilarious, an eery uncanny valley esque design, witty dialogue and the coolest most outrageous dance moves ever. she also literally just serves cunt the entire film. this had a little less gore then what i hoped for, and the plot can be predictable but this is an unhinged story of a killer robotic doll who seeks blood.
