Justice League vs The Fatal Five feels like an edgier two or three parter of the classic series than the more grand return I was hoping for, but with a returning voice cast that flawlessly returns to their iconic characters in Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman, and an art style that is still the second best of any of DC’s animation, it’s hard to go wrong and a focus on newcomers, particularly Jessica Cruz, who I’m happy to see getting some more play in the mainstream, it really does feel like a pretty spot on continuation of the series only betrayed by an edgier approach to its dialogue and violence, the former being the biggest offender, feeling weird and juvenile, while the latter doesn’t do nearly as much damage to the feel of the film. Timm’s style doesn’t just hold up but excels far beyond just about anything DC has attempted before or since. If they want to keep making these connected universes in their animation, maybe just continue this and maybe put a tad more restrictions on Timm.
