Juno was just a child when his father abandoned him from their village in Central Java. Abandoned and alone, he joins a Lengger dance centre where men shape their feminine appearance and movement. The sensuality and sexuality that came from the dance, mixed with the violent sociopolitical Indonesian environment, forces Juno to move from village to village.

Trauma is a part of life, but you still have to learn to love your body. Honestly, I can’t really judge it because while watching, I had mixed feelings and some parts even made me uncomfortable. But at the same time, there are many moral messages we can learn from it. It reminds us that life is not always just black and white—there are many other colors in between. That’s why we shouldn’t be quick to judge things we don’t fully understand.

the movie is actually pretty good, dari visual, monolog, and of course pergerakan TUBUH. The way the film uses body movement to express the main character’s emotions feels very deep, especially during Juno’s teenage phase.
But the closer it gets to the ending, the emotional payoff feels a bit weak. The film builds a complex character journey, yet the ending feels somewhat unresolved and doesn’t deliver an emotional impact equal to what was built earlier.
Some characters also appear out of nowhere without much background, so they end up feeling more like brief moments that pass by. Still, the film is artistically interesting and pretty bold.
