A beautifully shot documentary that focuses on the persisting beauty of Iraq, Kurdistan, Syria, and Lebanon despite the horrors and violence that plagues this region of the world. One thing that I recently learned from an interview from Damien Chazelle is that in order to make the appearance of a colorful film, one must choose a couple of colors accentuate them, make them bold instead of flooding the frame with colors. That was incredibly prominent in this documentary, having a color palette for each scene almost, which is why I started with mentioning how gorgeous the doc is. Secondly the director loves framing in frames. There are numerous instances of this in the documentary.
