I can absolutely understand why this screen adaptation of a play would rub critics the wrong way. Plus, folks showing up for the cast might write this off as self-indulgent catnip for actors rather than the crime flick that the poster’s slick suits and “Martin Scorsese Presents” promises.
I thought it was great. Navel gazing undercutting itself, the poet warrior on a righteous path to forge a singular vision as bumbling everyman. By sheer will alone you can be kind of a dick and make it into the machine. Or kill people. Or be killed.
