I like it whenever the Zatoichi series swaps hands between directors. Seeing a new take on the character, however minimal, is great. Seeing Zatoichi grapple with being a potential father-figure here adds for a lot of great melodrama and, more importantly for me in this case, comedy. This just might be the funniest Zatoichi film and all we needed was a baby

Really liked this one trying something new
The fighting in the title is clever implying a fight we’ve come to expect from these films, but actually meaning more of an internal fight
It was a lovely premise and very refreshing
Unfortunately, i found myself at times feeling embarrassed on behalf of the film for thinking I was more emotionally invested than I was
These films are at there best being wacky, fun and clever and really thinking outside the box - this was only half of that
The score was doing a WHOLE lot trying to convince me something was sad or something but the film just hadn’t done it right yk
I hope they explore a more sentimental story in future films, but just do it in a bit of a cooky-er way I suppose I think they would be really fun
