Oooo yeah this was still really great
It does stand out amongst the rest and really satisfied my craving for one of these films right now 
It’s such a strong craving when it comes bc I haven’t really found anything similar or anything that does any of this quite as good 
The wisecracking is great, the choreography is great, it takes itself the perfect amount of seriously for what it’s going for and it looks and moves really well 
It’s light and fun but can really pull you in if it’s bothered to and I really admire that 
Both easygoing and stimulating yk 
Like engaging actually interesting but not work 
Idk I think that tapped the nail on the head a mostly little bit
I’m just looking forward to coming back to all these one by one and really giving them some thought as stand-alone pieces 
Feels like breathing more life into them 
An already bright and lively series of adventures

After all his travels so far, Zatoichi is finally coming to peace with his role in the world. His struggles have led him back to being who he was before his character was being challenged, but now with clarity and purpose. He is a helper, a protector. The film’s focus on Zatoichi’s relationship with a smaller child as he escorts him to his father when his mother perishes is so strong here, a lot stronger than most every other relationship Zatoichi has had with another person in the series so far. This is a man who is reliant on others but has to be self-sufficient having to help a child - a person whose survival is explicitly tied to others. It’s a return to a lightness that makes the world feel beautiful despite the bad actors within it and us seeing an opponent for Zatoichi who can go more blow for blow with our beloved hero.

I like how although it "rehashes" ideas from previous entries it takes everything good about the previous entries and makes it one of the best entries with great storytelling, production, acting and ideas.

Very different from the last, but Misumi’s first that really worked for me 
The final 15 minutes were so brilliant
The series has unlocked ACTUALLY emotionally taxing scenes 
I genuinely cared for these characters and it hurt to see them in danger
Funnier, wayyyy less dark from the previous entry 
Super pleased with what the series is doing and how it switches it up 
I do want to see some more inventive sword play I do think I’m finding that a bit repetitive now 😬
