Zatoichi is forced to kill a young man who owes a debt to a yakuza boss. Moments later, his sister Osode arrives with the money she earned (prostituting herself) to pay his debts. The bosses true motives are revealed and he attempts to steal Osode even though the debt is paid. Zatoichi realizes his grievous error and protects the girl from the gang. Osode and Zatoichi are caught in a dilemma as she must rely on her brother's killer for protection and Zatoichi wrestles with the injustice he has caused.

Kenji Misumi is easily the best director to have touched these movies. His choreography and the way he captures fights is so damn good and nothing seems to slow him down. He understands very well how to pace out the fights to supplement the story and knows that the charm of the series lies in the idea of Zatoichi being up against the world in a lot of cases. This feels like a return to the Zatoichi before being so troubled by his role in the world, opting to always make amends as soon as possible for wrongdoing. It’s just so much fun. These are comfort food movies for me now

Ooo hello interesting colours
I loved the block colours and the bright colours and the weird colours
I loved the weird perspectives and the stark lighting
Some really innovative stuff here for the series which is very exciting as this keeps happening even closing in on the end
This could have been one of the best, it definitely is in my books, but we’re talking it could’ve been the best of the best here
Unfortunately there was some baggage going on and some stuff that didn’t land, but was very few and far between
No where near enough to hold it back loads
Fun side characters, good arc and interesting consistent story
But oh my god
The highlight of this film
The final kill
Just perfect
I’m not always one for ‘kill kill slash bang wollop’ but like when it’s good it’s good and when it’s outlandish it’s fun and even when it’s bleak and deadpan it can be funny
But here it was so simple and so effective
Imo Zatoichi The Outlaw saw the BEST like final kill thing with the INSANE rain and whites and greys against the reds
Ill never forget that
But here, the best like fall I don’t know how to describe it
The slicing and dicing was fun and cooky, then the way he falls is just so perfect
It just hit so well it was so satisfying
Idk how to describe it
But it was perfect
The best cut-down of the series, maybe not best like duel or actual ‘kill’ but the best fall
The sequence had so much energy in its spring and collapse
I felt like that deserved a lot of appreciation
