Zatoichi at Large
Wow, this one is a clunker. Opening with Zatoichi delivering a baby - one of the few things he hasn’t done so far in the series - Zatoichi At Large is just all over the place in tone. They try to cram in way too many stuff at once, essentially trying to be ten different Zatoichi movies in one go. So much of it is just not fun either and the few stylistic differences this has in comparison to the other films, such as the music choices, are not enough to salvage much of anything

Okay first 30 minutes had me thinking this was by far the worst instalment yet
Clunky
Messy
A bit boring and just annoying
Then it got weirdly dark in a way that didn’t work for a bit for me
Then it pulled it back for the last half and made something with a nice balance of the quirkiness and the darkness
Had a good time
THEN busted out some REALLY good stuff at the very end
Ltr the very very end
But I’m afraid too little too late
I’m glad it pulled itself together in the end
Some really great moments here absolutely make this a worthwhile watch even if they’re further apart than I’d like

A top 3 final duels as well

This is just a retread of many previous films in the series, annoying side characters, good to decent action without much change, babysitting, Zatoichi having a bounty.

Its gone a little stale.

Such a brutal beating scene, but tension is eased when you realize this dude’s got 3 more movies to go.
