I am a huge fan of the Showa films and with it being over 20 years since the last released original film I was expecting more. It’s enjoyable but a little formulaic especially as we had most of the Heisei Godzilla films to compete against. Still, it has some lovely monster suit effects and I loved every shot of them in the cotton clouds, you can see why Shinji Higuchi got a name for himself doing the special effects for this.

Good film for Kaiju fans but hardcore Gamera fans may be left wanting.

I was expecting a lot more. This is what people refer to as the best Gamera movie? It's weak at best and certainly not better than the 1967 Gamera vs. Gyaos.
