Of course, this film doesn’t pack the same punch as The Children’s Hour (‘61), but it’s still worth a watch thanks to Wyler’s ever captivating direction, Gregg Toland’s exquisite cinematography, and Merle Oberon and Miriam Hopkin’s undeniable chemistry that transcends it’s limitations and captures the hearts of viewers nearly ninety years later.

Skulder continues having women at the center of his stories which is nice to see. This time around he adapts the play The Children's hour a play he'd return to in the 60s which by the looks of it, is more successful. I'm sure the movie would have been better was it not restricted by the Hays Code. That said it still works as a decent drama. I'm looking forward to watching the later version though as that seems quite a bit better
