So I watched my second Wyler of the, this time it was The Gay Deception. It’s a cute little movie, with all the charm a 30s movie like it should have. Frances Dee is wonderful and her costar Francis Lederer is also a rather charming performer, however his character also brings up one of the movies bigger flaws. While fun and entertaining, the male character is equally annoying and the main romance doesn’t work nearly as well due to this, which hindered the believability and aged the movie quite a lot. The story is fun, but can feel a bit long in the start, before it eventually reveals itself to be more than what I first expected. It’s fun and charming but no masterpiece.
