Sister George ran so Lydia Tár could walk.
This movie actually made me so uncomfortable I just don’t really know what they were really doing here. The fact that George’s sexuality had no relevance to her job and further loss of job could been seen as open minded thinking. But this is so largely over shadowed by the horrifically toxic relationship between George and Alice.
I assume it’s the lingering stain of the Hayes code that had our main lesbian character be alcoholic and emotionally abusive, as well as several other issues. But it doesn’t exactly get better with Mrs Croft who is manipulative and controlling even though she says she wants to save Alice from her toxic relationship.
The sex scene at the end was painful to watch (not only because of the bad acting) and I did not need to see all that, especially for a movie made in 1968
