Absolutely incredible movie!!!! It’s everything I could possibly want… It’s beautiful, it’s goofy, it’s exaggerated, it’s theatrical, its soundtrack slaps, and I will now never shut up about it.

Looks like someone mixed Scooby-Doo with opera and Eastern European weirdness. Everyone’s either yelling, scheming, or dramatically fainting. Honestly? Camp.

This film is so gleeful in how it portrays the advancement of peoples. The new is strange and shunned and yet it is upheld as whimsical and frightening at the same time. The film and it’s exploration of creation and film is so intent on creating an atmosphere of suspense and awe that it’s hard not to smile at certain revelations regarding technology throughout the film, especially with how quirky the art direction of the film is

feels more in the realm of of 60s - 70s wackadoo movies that i love. beautiful and silly and delightful, i mourn that they will never make things like this again but at least i have so many things to look back to that are this ridiculous. i need to watch more czech !! also love the last shot, why yes this whole thing was an opera

The Mysterious Castle in the Carpathians is such a delightfully charming film with some amazing set design. The aforementioned castle is such a wonderful setting and is easily the best part of the film. Anytime the steampunk aesthetic of the castle is on the screen, it’s a blast. The rest of the film ranges in quality. The story is probably the weakest element. There are some pacing issues and moments that don’t make sense. However, the story does the bare minimum of being entertaining and gets you from scene to scene. The characters are quite good. They are zany and wacky and live up to the premise of the film. The comedy is also good. Most of the time it’s not laugh-out-loud funny. But, the film has this crazy over-the-top atmosphere that you are always amused by whatever is happening on the screen. It’s also not to say the film doesn’t have great comedic moments. There are a few jokes that got a good laugh out of me. Overall, The Mysterious Castle in the Carpathians is pure entertainment and I love the uniqueness so much.
