“Where is everybody? Let’s get those arms in shape.”
I have waited too long but finally, it is Spring Training for Major League Baseball. Charlie Brown’s love for baseball is reminiscent of me as a child. I never learned how to ride a bike when I was a kid because I was always throwing a tennis ball off the house, playing wiffle ball, or hitting off the tee. I think that’s why I loved Charlie Brown so much, because episodes like this I could relate to and love.
Unfortunately, this episode is a little weird. The whole point is that the Peanuts gang are wanting new jerseys, and the owner of the wood shop promised them jerseys if they win the first game of the season. So the gang practices during Spring Training in preparation for the season. When they get to the first game, they bring out a boombox and rap about how they’re going to win the game. Like, I know it’s a kid show but if I was the opposing team witnessing that, I’d probably laugh, knowing we got the win in the bag. It’s just really weird. I like my Charlie Brown episodes treating kids like they are smart and to teach them life lessons and how to face them. I’m just not a fan of Sam Jaimes’ directed Charlie Brown episodes and would much rather have Bill Melendez or Phil Roman. Last thing, the music in this is so bad. The whole episode I was hoping Vince Guaraldi would make an appearance, but it never happened.
