Although I think this film falls flat in a lot of aspects I think the core message behind it and the experiences Yi Yao are genuinely something that we have to learn from. This movie stirs a lot of emotions on people and can make many feel not alone. But I think it’s important to remember that although this is a film these are events that happen to people and continue to happen. I’m glad this film brings awareness on the reality of rumors and bullying in high school as yes they are kids they can still do a lot of evil.

Besides that I think this film has generated two of my most hated characters in a film first being Qi Ming. My god is this boy ignorant. Does he think that being helping someone less fortunate it makes him a good person. Like how can he go from constantly checking on her but as soon as he finds out she’s ill he just abandons her and then has the audacity to act like it was her fault to begin with. One of the worst cinematic friends i’ve seen in a while. He stood back and watched and she jumped like if they were childhood friends wouldn’t you do something.

And then another awful person in Tang Xiaomi, I mean come on she got bullied in her previous school comes to a new school and finally makes new friends. Then bullies another student like how can you experience that awful feelings and then put that onto someone else. A pure blood psychopath with the way she acts. I understand it’s hard to get out of that cycle of abuse. But jesus did she let down every expectation of what she could’ve been. 

Those two really are gonna make this movie memorable as some of the worst people i’ve seen in a movie and a perfect example of what humanity shouldn’t be.

Regardless of that I really feel for Yi Yao as she was dealt every bad card in the book. Sunxi and Sunxiaong were amazing characters that really just felt like happiness. Even though it kind of annoys me that it’s implied that Sunxi just leaves Yi Yao after the death. Like does it mean he believes he did it, why did he only support her once she was by the sea. Really frustrated me.
Yet again though i’m glad these issues are being talked about.
