No Escape Room
Don’t get me wrong I wasn’t expecting this film to be masterclass in horror, but No Escape Room squandered whatever little expectations I had with the film.

The premise is centred around five people, Karen (Jeni Ross), Michael (Mark Ghanime), Tyler (Hamza Haq), Melanie (Kathryn Davis) and Andrew (Dennis Andres) who find themselves trapped in an Escape Room.

The biggest problem with the film is that it isn’t smart or disgusting as it think it is. Most of the sequences which could be squeamish are watered down to PG-13 levels of horror. The film thinks that it is creating some Inception layer of traps, but it just comes off as annoying rather than intriguing.

It also doesn’t help that none of the characters are interesting in any sort of way. Karen is annoying, Melanie is incredibly stupid. And other characters are basically plain, with no reason to like.

The film tries to set up scares, but fails to deliver. We are teased an arrival of some kind of monster, but that monster just never arrives. I think I should be thankful because that monster probably would have been some cheap knock-off of Freddy Krueger with painful CGI effects.

Add to that painful dialogue that just come off as unnatural in the events that is happening. There is an instance where Andrew just shouts ‘You want us to find the key, huh!’ which came off as unintentionally hilarious.
