Honestly, this was a lot better than I thought it would be. After the disastrous third installment, which was pretty boring, I’m glad that this franchise bounced back with a very silly film. This might be an unpopular opinion but I like this more than the first Amityville. The first one was just too slow for me and didn’t have quite enough haunted house tropes and scary moments to make me enjoy it. This, on the other hand, has a plentiful amount of amazing moments and the fact that the entire premise of the film is so outrageously unserious is why it is so enjoyable in my opinion. First things first, the whole religious/evil/exorcism aspect of these movies are back and might I say that the opening scene is amazing. Even though this spends most of its time in California, I’m glad we still got to see the original Amityville house. The house used in place of the Amityville one, however, is still a pretty scary and menacing haunted house. When it was first shown on screen, I literally thought to myself, “Now that's a haunted house if I ever did see one!!”. But what I find so funny is that the only reason it's haunted is because of a lamp that resided in the Amityville home!! That is the object in which the Amityville house has decided to relinquish its evil. It's a pretty ugly lamp and that observation is made quite a few times in the movie itself. It sure is evil though. The lamp corrupts Jessica and even kills Helen, who sent the lamp to California in the first place. The lamp sometimes glows, which is cool, but what it does to the house is even cooler. Black ooze spurts out of the faucets, one of the characters’ toothpaste turns into a similar black ooze as they are brushing their teeth, another character gets their hand obliterated by the garbage disposal since they had their hand down there, and of course a plumber, who was sent to check out the mysterious black ooze, gets suffocated by it whilst in the crawlspace. There’s a lot of gnarly stuff going on. By the way, the opening scene in the Amityville home included blood seeping from the walls, objects moving on their own, and we got to see the lamp in all of its glory for the first time, which included a glowing demonic face that emerged from the lamp. The ending is what really makes this fun though. The lamp gets hurled off a cliff in the most dramatic fashion imaginable and when that happened, I couldn’t stop laughing, it was just so good. But it’s the VERY ending that REALLY does it for me. If you’ve seen this then you know what I’m talking about. All I will say is that it involves Pepper the cat that is shown previously in the film a number of times. The only reason I don’t rate this higher is because it’s still pretty slow at times and is honestly really silly, maybe a bit too silly, if that's even possible. But it has just enough personality to be better than the first Amityville in my eyes.

On rewatch, this is extremely fun and I think it deserves mentioning how many older actresses get to flaunt amazing fits in this. Real anti-hag horror.
