The only question na pabalik-balik sa utak ko all throughout the movie is, "Nag-eenglish pala sila sa all-girls Catholic School?" Haha. Kidding but not exactly. The film is a good cutesy heartfelt movie especially if you're a baby gay. Love needs expressing. Love needs to be fought. Love doesn't only need to matter in the silent moments shared by the two of you exclusively.
The film delivers well naman this message. Billie and Emma went beyond passing notes, hushing their conversations in the library, and escaping through music and the vast sceneries laid before them. Ang interesting lang how the dynamics between Billie & Emma, in a way, impacted her on the decision of keeping the baby. Emma thought Billie is cool for her "uniqueness" and the way she stood up against Miss Castro in their religion class, when the topic was "homosexuality as a sin".
Instead of perfecting the mold of a stellar student and be complacent with the system, Emma makes bold moves, choices, and decisions. Well, parang matapang na man din talaga siya. I mean, she's engaging in unprotected pre-marital sex but putting that aside. She decided to be a bit forward sa pagpapansin kay Billie. She publicly confessed her pregnancy in the assembly. Ultimately, she decided to keep the baby which is a bold move given that her scholarship might go down the drain because of it. And let's be honest, Billie influenced her in a way. But that doesn't mean Emma didn't have an impact on Billie too.
Even though Billie stands out from everyone else in the school, she attempts to hide it. Wears the uniform and puts on hair clips just so she can "fit in" wherein Emma told her na that won't happen lol. Given as sa anong nangyari sa kanya and kanyang papa, parang tinatanggap na lang din ni Billie kung ano man mangyari. Sige na. Bahala na lang. But Emma slowly lets her become comfortable to who she is again. Bading siya HAHA. Engages with her about her interests, talks to her with no judgment, and being just a fun person that Billie could find ease in. Kita din naman how Billie was able to write a song—even though she said she doesn't sing. She was also even willing na umako din part of Emma's pregnancy burden. They bring out the best in each other which is super cute. The security of their shared silent moments become the greatest foundation of their strength and courage to be bold about who they love and what they will do for them.
I hope there would be a spin-off tho lol. Dun sa story ng tita ni Billie. Like, gets ba? Imagine being a lesbian, growing up Catholic, and having to end up as a religious teacher and ito ha, Billie's the father sent her sa kanyang tita after finding out Billie had a gf. If I were the homophobic tatay and if alam kong bading yung kapatid ko, would I send my anak na ayaw kong maging bading to that bading person? 'Di ba? So, it's very interesting to me. Why exactly did he do that? Out of spite for Billie and to abandon her completely and let her become the spinster like her tita? Or that the dad thought na "tumino" si tita and he's hoping Billie would turn out the same? Imagine how lonely it is for the Tita. Dito ka na lang po sa tabi ko. Emi.
Anyway, five stars dahil kabadingan. Definitely a better movie than Baka Bukas. I love you pa rin, Jasmine.
